The .schematic and .schem formats
The legacy .schematic format from the MCEdit era stores blocks as numeric IDs with a separate metadata array, a design from before Minecraft's 1.13 flattening. The modern Sponge .schem format instead lists namespaced block states such as minecraft:oak_stairs[facing=east]. Converting maps each legacy numeric ID and data value to its flattened block state so that current WorldEdit and FAWE installations can read an older schematic library without an old client.
How to convert .schematic to .schem
01
Upload the legacy .schematic file.
02
Check the converted palette and orientation in the preview.
03
Export as .schem for a modern WorldEdit-compatible file.
When to use this conversion
This is designed for bringing older schematic libraries into a current editing workflow without first opening them in an old Minecraft client.
Compatibility notes
Legacy numeric block IDs are mapped to modern block names where possible. Because Minecraft's flattening changed block data substantially, inspect unusual blocks and states in the preview.
